Where's Elmo?

Colouring In

Just back from our holidays in Connemara, west of the west in Poll Ríomhach (literally "back arse"). Lots of slow breakfasts, brunches, late lunches and early dinners, late nights and lie-ins for the ladies, mermalades, indoor shots, running shots, wet walks, cropped heads at the beach shots, frantic adults and kids colouring in, fish suppers, microwaving fish, open fires, spectacular sunsets, hot chocolates and marshmallows, outdoor shots in colourful raingear, lots of sunsets but little sunshine, doughy bagles, taking the week to read the Sunday papers, hangsang-idges, birdwatching, washing up, visitors (including Connemara ponies, cattle and grandparents), princess plasters, candle burning, phonecalls from up the stones, seaweed and sand throwing competitions, clipclop in our flipflops, reading, watersports (strictly spectators), car compilations in the kitchen, Elmo Lost/Found/Lost, Stripey Tops, weather watching, Magic shows with disfigured Doras, unrequited quests for crisps in Cashel, sneaky snacks in Steam Café Clifden, misty rain between your teeth, cheesecake breaks, rows over plastic, have you got Mr Green? 5,6 pick up sticks, Bentley the parrot, pots of jelly at sunset, hefty limes, bricked blackberries, Muppet shows, paddling excursions turning bad, birthday breakfasts, human skimming swingball, epic adventures of Daisy and Blackie. When the sun shines in Connemara there's no better place to be in all the world.

Magnetic Zimmerman

We saw these guys play last weekend and it was fantastic. No decent footage from Dublin so I've borrowed some from a Vancouver show a month or so ago.

Everybody Down Up

D performed her first solo recital in the unlikely surroundings of a prefab on the Curragh today. The piece, "One String Wonder, Look No Hands" was executed flawlessly in front of an audience of her peers and devoted relations - there wasn't a dry seat in the house. We're so proud of the little lady's confidence and hard earned technique. She practices every day and it paid off. To celebrate, she traded up from a loaner 1/16th violin to a big girl's 1/8th.

Young, Old, Just Words

The Dream : High Tea in a posh hotel.
The Reality : Fish n Chips with the kids.
The Dream : Romantic Arthouse movies on Winter afternoons at the Lighthouse.
The Reality : The Muppets at Liffey Valley

Which would you choose?

36 is a fine age and should not be considered old (although the wheely shopping trolley is a concern). I love that you can still be moved to tears by great works of art (like the Muppets). I love the fact that you chose a kiddies movie for your birthday treat. I love the fact that you think a 50% extra free lemon/banana/pineapple swiss roll is a cute birthday cake mostly because it gets me off the hook to bake a fresh one. I love bludgeoning each other with ballooims. I love the wonder in a child's eyes after producing a biscotti shit. I love inaugural big birthday breakfasts and not poisoning ye. I love small heads in popcorn boxes. Most of all I love you and our family and the endless efforts we make to move the dream closer to our reality. Happy retrospective birthday M.

Beam Me Up Biscotti

Wow. Rare 1961 Rickenbacker Capri. If you look closely you can see it's orange. I've never seen anything like those pots before. Seen here
